My first year as an IMG was very difficult. In addition to the steep learning curve and the cultural differences, I just had no idea how to get things done and struggled to find help. Through tears, heartache and resilience, I found my feet. I have accomplished things that helped me realise that once you have the right information, anything is possible. I put myself forward for a quality improvement training and this led me to my first oral presentation at a regional meeting in the UK. I got the opportunity to lead the local audit as part of a multi-center audit. The audit results were accepted at a National meeting for a poster presentation and led to a journal publication. I stood for election as a staff governor in the Oxford University NHS Foundation Trust and served on the Council of Governors.
